® Hanna Reitsch (or is is Anna Kreisling?)

Subject: Recon flight over the US during WW II ?

This is a great story but is it true?  I have been doing some digging on Anna Kreisling and found that it might have been a cover name for Hanna Reitsch, a famous Luftwaffe pilot.  There is also some doubt that the Ju-390 had the range to make it to NYC and back let alone fly over Michigan.  One article mentioned the range of 6000 miles.  No matter what, a great story.

"Ju 390 V1 prototype was unlikely to have been capable of taking off with the fuel load necessary for a flight of such duration due to strength concerns caused by its modified structure; it would have required a takeoff weight of 65 tonnes (72 tons), while the maximum takeoff weight during its trials had been 34 tonnes (38 tons)."

"It that it matters, given the uncredibility of PN's picture sourcing to begin with, but the lady in the picture shaking hands isn't Anna Kreisling, but Hanna Reitsch.

Both of them fascinating people, despite their political leanings - Reitsch was kind of a female, German version of Chuck Yeager."
